(Edited Fasig-Tipton press release)
Fasig-Tipton is teaming with Gulfstream Park to sponsor the $250,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II) for 3-year-olds. The 63rd running of the race, which will be called the “Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes,” is scheduled for Feb. 28 in South Florida. The Fasig-Tipton Florida select sale of 2-year-olds in training will be held March 3 at nearby Calder Race Course.
Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winners Thunder Gulch, Spectacular Bid, Kauai King, and Tim Tam all captured the Fountain of Youth while Go For Gin, Unbridled, Swale, Pleasant Colony, Carry Back, and Iron Liege came up short in the Gulfstream race but rebounded to score in the Run for the Roses.
“A race such as the Fountain of Youth deserves a top-class sponsor, and everyone associated with the business of racing understands Fasig-Tipton’s richly deserved reputation for integrity,” said Bill Murphy, Gulfstream’s president and general manager. “We’re very pleased to be associated with Fasig-Tipton. Fasig-Tipton is a major name in this industry, and their involvement, along with that of our other corporate partners, speak volumes to the confidence they have in this racetrack as well as the future of this industry.”
Fasig-Tipton executive vice president and chief operating oficer Dan Pride said: “It is a great privilege to partner with Gulfstream Park to showcase one of their signature races. This great day of racing will be a highlight of the weekend for many visitors to South Florida for our 2-year-old sale.”
