Grade I-winning millionaire and track record-setter Shakespeare  's fee was lowered for the 2009 breeding season, Hill 'n' Dale Farms announced Jan. 21.

A winner of seven races in eight starts and one of 22 grade/group I winners for his sire, the Nureyev stallion Theatrical, he will stand for a 2009 adjusted fee of $10,000 live foal. Previously, Shakespeare's fee had been $15,000.

"Shakespeare was a brilliant racehorse that has all the tools to carry on the tradition of his great sire, Theatrical," said John G. Sikura, president of Hill 'n' Dale. "This adjustment in fee represents a great deal for breeders. We are aware that these are trying times and want to ensure a large book of quality mares for the horse."
