It doesn’t happen very often, but Jan. 18 at Turfway Park a white horse was led into the winner’s circle when Patchen Prince broke his maiden in the last race on the card.
The 4-year-old Pioneeringcolt is out of the mare Patchen Beauty, who herself is registered as white in color. She is the dam of four foals officially designated as white, all three of them to race now winners. Her other two winners are The White Fox, by Pioneering, and Spot of Beauty, by Skip Away. The other is her yearling colt by Devil His Due.
Patchen Beauty and her offspring have been bred and raced by Patchen Wilkes Farm near Lexington, owned by Warren Rosenthal.
Patchen Prince, who broke his maiden in his seventh start, is trained by William Connelly and was ridden by Thomas Pompell.
