Keeneland Numbers Decline Once Again

Salman Rashid paid the day’s second-highest price of $57,000 for a yearling colt by
Five Star Day out of the Pleasant Colony mare Minicolony. The colt, consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent, is a half-brother stakes-placed Sea Pines and Suzy Smart.
Keeneland sold 244 horses for gross receipts of $2,050,200 Jan. 16, down 45.6% from 2008 when 239 horses brought $3,766,400. The average of $8,402 decreased 46.7% from last year’s figure of $15,759, while the median of $4,500 was down 47.1% from $8,500 in 2008.
Cumulatively, Keeneland has sold 1,125 horses for $31,028,200, down 53.5% from the corresponding period last year when 1,145 horses brought $66,678,700. The average of $27,581 represents a 52.6% decrease from $58,235 in 2008. The median was down 58.3% from $24,000 in 2008 to $10,000 this year.
Jade Dreamer, a 5-year-old mare by Jade Hunter, brought $50,000 from Vin Cox Bloodstock. Out of the Nijinsky II mare Sky Ninski, Jade Dreamer is a full sister to stakes winner Vinista, dam of Discovery Handicap (gr. III) winner Roman Dynasty. She was consigned as a racing or broodmare prospect by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.
