Because of an ominous forecast for bitter Arctic cold, compounded by strong winds, the New York Racing Association has decided to cancel its scheduled live race card at Aqueduct Jan. 16. Beulah Park in Ohio also canceled its Jan. 16 program because of frigid temperatures.

Aqueduct will be open for simulcasting Jan. 16. There is no parking or admission charge, and gates open at 11:30 a.m. EST. Friday’s scheduled races will come back as extra races the week of Jan. 18.

At 11 a.m. Jan. 15, the temperature was 18 degrees but it felt like 5 degrees because of wind chill. The National Weather Service forecast for Ozone Park, N.Y., called for a high of 19 degrees by 3 p.m., but the wind-chill effect is expected to make it feel between 6 degrees above and 7 degrees below zero.

The normal racing schedule will be back Jan. 17 with a nine-race card featuring the 90th running of the $65,000 Evening Attire Stakes for 3-year-olds and up. First race post time will be 12:30 p.m.

Beulah Park, which also remains open for full-card simulcasts, is scheduled to resume live racing Jan. 17 as well. Beulah Park also canceled live racing Jan. 14 because of a snow storm, and earlier this week lost all but one race because of track conditions.
