Famous Mare Manny Dober Dead

Manny Dober, a daughter of Native Heritage whose racing career was chronicled in “The Complete Book of Thoroughbred Horse Racing”  by Tom Biracree and Wendy Insinger, was euthanized Jan. 13 at 32 because of the infirmities of old age.  The last 19 years, she had been the property of Jim Percival’s White Cat Farm. The farm is located near Coffeyville, Kan.  The book covered her early life as a foal through her racing career.

Manny Dober, out of the Pronto mare Tanta Prisa, raced as a homebred for P.H. Sagarin. The New York-bred mare was trained first by Karl M. Grusmark, and then by Robert DeBonis, and captured one of 11 starts while racing at Aqueduct and Suffolk Downs. As a broodmare, she produced 10 foals, five of which were winners.
