Buckle Down Ben Heads Iowa Derby Field

Buckle Down Ben enters Friday's $250,000 Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows from June's third leg of the Triple Crown, the grade I Belmont Stakes, where he finished seventh off the lead from Point Given.

Jockey Lonnie Meche will get the call on Buckle Down Ben from Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas. The Iowa Derby will be the horse's 10th start going the distance of 1 1/16 miles.

In addition to Buckle Down, the race showcases other top 3-year-olds such as: Touch Tone, Sirpa, Drewman, Compendium, Solingen, and Who Devil Who.

The race is scheduled to go off around 6:50 p.m., and will be televised by ESPN2 as part of their 2Day At The Races.
