A Redoute’s Choice colt out of the group I-winning Centaine mare Kapchat topped the third session of the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions yearling auction in Australia Jan. 9 when he sold for Aust$1.2 million (approximately $848,376 in U.S. funds). Victoria-based owners Peter Devitt and Les Gordon purchased the bay colt from Widden Stud, agent.
The seven-figure yearling is a half-brother to group III winner Kaphero and stakes winners Princesa.
“There were some great results during today’s session,” said Magic Millions managing director David Chester. “But it is still, in my eyes, very much a buyers’ market. Quality lots are attracting plenty of attention from the large buying bench on hand. We’ve had some very happy vendors, who have received better than expected results.”
During the auction’s first three sessions combined, 420 horses have been sold for a gross of Aust$58,578,500 ($41,413,828). The average was Aust$134,711 ($95,238). All figures were down from a year ago when the 490 horses that sold grossed Aust$74,825,000 and averaged Aust$152,704.
