The Fasig-Tipton December mixed sale, this country’s last major Thoroughbred auction of the year, will be held Dec. 14 at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. There are 221 horses listed in the catalog: 142 broodmares or broodmare prospects, 44 weanlings, and 35 yearlings or horses of racing age.

According to Fasig-Tipton Texas director of sales Tim Boyce, “the quality of our breeding stock is noticeably higher this year.” The Lane’s End Texas consignment includes 22 horses from Stonerside Stable.

Last year, 125 horses sold for $574,700, up 6.1% from 124 sold for $541,300 in 2006. The average price climbed to $4,598, a 5.3% increase. The buy-back rate decreased to 21.9% from 23% in 2006. The median price suffered a 25% decline to $2,100.
