Artax, a champion sprinter and Breeders’ Cup winner, has been acquired by R.G. Gammill to stand at his Diamond G Ranch near Edmond, Okla. His fee is $2,500.
A 13-year-old son of Marquetry, Artax has sired 16 stakes horses and the earners of $11.1 million. His stakes winners include grade I winner Friendly Michelle and millionaire Diabolical, plus Magnetic Miss, a multiple stakes winner in 2008. Artax’ 2008 progeny earnings of $1.8 million place the stallion third on Oklahoma’s current leading sires list.
Artax was voted champion sprinter after winning the 1999 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (gr. I) in track-record-equaling time at Gulfstream Park and the Vosburgh Stakes (gr. I). He retired with earnings of $1,685,840.
Artax, who is out of the Apalachee mare Raging Apalachee, formerly stood in New York State.
