Favored Old Fashioned   made sure there wasn’t a lot of suspense about the outcome of the $200,000 Remsen Stakes (gr. II) VIDEO) for 2-year-olds at Aqueduct Nov. 29. The son of Unbridled's Song grabbed the lead early and then romped to a 7 1/4 –length victory in New York.

Ridden by Ramon Dominguez, Old Fashioned completed the 1 1/8 miles in 1:50.33 to score his third career victory and remain undefeated. Under a hard hold with less than a furlong to go, the colt needed only one tap of Dominguez’s left-handed whip to keep straight during his charge to the wire.

“Once he made the lead, I took a peek back, hit him one time, and he took off,” Dominguez said. “It was pretty impressive. Judging by today, there is no telling how far he can go.”

Atomic Rain finished second, 2 1/2 lengths ahead of American Dance. Idol Maker was fourth, followed by Hold Me Back, Rip Rap, and Awesome Mich. Jazzandthemagician was scratched.

Old Fashioned wasn’t pushed hard by his six rivals during his trip over the fast Aqueduct surface. His fractions were :24.41, 49.44, 1:14.18, and 1:38.11.

“The horse had a perfect trip,” said Old Fashioned’s trainer Larry Jones. “The fractions up front were very realistic. They let us run out there pretty easy. I was very grateful to see the fractions, especially as they came around the far turn.”

Owned by Fox Hill Farms, Old Fashioned paid $3.50, $2.90, and $2.40 to his backers. Atomic Rain returned $9.10 and $4.90, and American Dance paid $3.40.

Old Fashioned made his career debut Oct. 6 at Delaware Park, breaking his maiden at six furlongs while defeating Sunday Blitz by only a nose. In his next outing at the same track, Old Fashioned cruised by 15 1/2 lengths in a one-mile allowance event. Jockey Terry Thompson was aboard for both of those efforts.

Bred in Kentucky by Rod Rodriguez and Lorraine Rodriguez, Old Fashioned is an $800,000 graduate of the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale. Tom McGreevy, agent for Terra Reverse Exchange, purchased the colt from Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.

The $120,000 winning share of the Remsen purse raised Old Fashioned’s career earnings to $173,280. He was produced from the Meadowlake mare Collect Call, who captured the 2001 Santa Ysabel Stakes (gr. III) and two other added-money events.
