Trainer Steve Asmussen tied his own North American record for 555 wins by a trainer in a calendar year when Padua Stables’ Union Strike won a Nov. 22 maiden event on turf at Fair Grounds. Asmussen also won 555 races in 2004.

Luis Quinonez was aboard the son of Smart Strike  , who is also the sire of Asmussen-trained reigning Horse of the Year Curlin.

Asmussen could surpass the mark Sunday, Nov. 23, as he has 11 horses entered at five tracks on Sunday -- Aqueduct, Churchill Downs, Fair Grounds, Hawthorne, and Remington Park. The first Asmussen starter on Sunday is at Fair Grounds at 12:30 p.m. with the last of the 11 slated for Hawthorne at 5:23 p.m. All times are central.
