Galileo Completes Derby Double

Galileo won the Irish Derby by four lengths Sunday, three weeks after the colt captured the English Derby. Galileo, a 4-11 favorite, is unbeaten in five starts. The colt was ridden by Michael Kinane, who won his first home derby in 18 attempts.
Galileo, trained by Aidan O'Brien, took the lead in the final two furlongs of the 1 1/2-mile race at Curragh.
"He has that gear where everything is in his scope, he does it all effortlessly," Kinane said. "We knew they were going to go today, but he has so much speed and so much stamina."
Italian Derby winner Morshdi, a 20-1 shot, finished second in the 12-horse field. Golan, a 4-1 shot who finished second to Galileo at Epsom, was third. Pugin finished fourth in the 12-horse field.
Mrs. John Magnier's Galileo (Sadler's Wells--Urban Sea, by Miswaki, completed the distance in 2:27.10 on good to yielding ground while being eased approaching the finish line.
