Multiple stakes winner Indy Wind has retired from racing and will join the stallion ranks at Brent and Crystal Fernung’s Journeyman Stud in Ocala, FL for the 2009 breeding season. The son of A.P. Indyproduced from the Kingmambo mare Zagora will stand for $2,500.
Indy Wind posted a career record of eight wins, including five stakes victories, and was on the board in 13 of 22 starts while earning $392,900. The 6-year-old horse won back-to-back renewals of the Alysheba Stakes in 2006-07 at the Meadowlands, as well as consecutive runnings of the Frisk Me Now Stakes at Monmouth in 2007-08, and the Skip Away Stakes.
Indy Wind began his career winning three of his first four starts. He broke his maiden first time out while sprinting six furlongs, and followed with a 10-length win in an entry-level allowance race, earning a 102 Beyer Speed Rating, and won a second-level allowance race in his fourth start with a 100 Beyer.
“The fast sons of A.P. Indy are the ones that make good sires,” said Brent Fernung. “Indy Wind is a fast son of A.P. Indy, and at the price he’s standing for people ought to love him.”
