Indian Charlie Weanling Tops Wed. Sale
The weanling market continued to provide whatever spark the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale was able to muster Nov. 12, the 10th day of the 15-session event. An Indian Charlie weanling colt out of Willa Time, by Gilded Time, brought the day’s highest price of $110,000 when Shannon Run Stables bought the colt out of the Eaton Sales, agent, consignment. The weanling’s third dam, Willamae, a stakes winner herself, has produced Travers Stakes (gr. I) winner Will’s Way and Ashland Stakes (gr. I) victor Willa on the Move. A Tapit weanling colt provided the second-highest price on the day when Whitechurch went to $77,000 to purchase the colt, who is out of the Wolf Power mare Miss Pine Top Az., a stakes-placed winner. Miss Pine Top Az. also produced the graded stakes winner Savorthetime. The colt was consigned by Warrendale Sales, agent for Highland Oaks Farm. The session’s third-highest price of $65,000 was paid by Tom Gentry, agent, for a filly by Congaree out of Irish group victor St. Clair Ridge, by Indian Ridge. She was consigned by Eaton Sales. For the Nov. 12 session, $2,580,500 changed hands, down 59% from the $6,295,500 that was spent a year ago. The average on the day was $14,497, a 38.7% slip from $23,667 in 2007. The median fell 31.4% from $17,500 to $12,000. The day saw 178 sold, compared to 266 a year ago. After 10 days, 1,999 horses have been sold at Keeneland for a gross of $175,875,300, down 46.4% from $328,069,900 in 2007, when 2,407 had been sold. The cumulative average fell 35.4% from $136,298 to $87,982. The median tumbled from $55,000 to $38,000, a drop of 30.9%.
