Walklikeanegyptian, a 5-year-old Danehill mare, topped the Nov. 9 session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale when she sold to Arch Bloodstock for $220,000.
Glen Hill Farm consigned Walklikeanegyptian, who was offered in foal to Perfect Soul. The stakes-placed bay mare is a half-sister to grade II winner Callwood Dancer (by Danehill Dancer), who won the May 31 Nassau Stakes (Can-II) at Woodbine. They are out of the Rahy mare Ahdaab.
Irish-bred Walklikeanegyptian finished second in the 2006 Pucker Up Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Arlington Park for Glen Hill Farm. She is carrying her first foal.
Another young broodmare brought the second-highest price of the day. Blink Twice, an 8-year-old Dixieland Band mare, sold to Needham/Betz, agent, for $150,000. Three Chimneys Sales consigned the mare, who is in foal to Grand Slam, on behalf of Padua Stables.
Blink Twice, who is out of the grade II-winning Clever Trick mare With a Wink, is a full sister to stakes winners Jena Jena and Win With a Wink and is a half-sister to added-money winner Up Like Thunder (by War Chant ). Blink Twice’s first foal, a 3-year-old Tiznow filly named Capricious, is stakes-placed.
During the Nov. 9 session, Keeneland sold 240 horses for a gross of $7,417,500, which is down 46.3% from the comparable session in 2007 when 257 horses brought $13,819,200. The average of $30,906 was down 42.5% from $53,771, while the median declined 37.5% from $40,000 to $25,000. With 62 horses not sold, the RNA rate for the session was 20.5%.
Through the first seven days of the 15-day sale, 1,397 horses have been sold for a gross of $162,319,700, an average of $116,192, and a median of $60,000. At this point last year, 1,629 horses had been sold for $302,303,900. The average was $185,576, and the median was $87,000. Compared to 2007, the total gross is down 46.3%, while the average has declined 37.4% and the median is down 31%.
