Wagering Decline Slides Through October

Wagering has declined nearly 6% through the first 10 months of the year, according to the “Thoroughbred Racing Economic Racing Indicators” published monthly by Equibase.

A total of $11,880,842,435 has been wagered through Oct. 30 on tracks in the United States and Canada, a 5.87% drop from the $12,621,510,379 wagered in 2007. Wagering in October alone was $1,125,935,224, a decline of 6.94% from 2007.

United States purses through October were $11,880,842,435, off slightly (0.45%) from 2007. Racing days totaled 5,299, a 1.19% drop from 2007.
