Representing Sheikh Mohammed, John Ferguson went to $2.3 million to acquire grade I winner Shadow Cast during the afternoon portion of the 2008 Keeneland November breeding stock sale Nov. 3 at the Central Kentucky auction house.
“A beautiful mare, we bought the A.P. Indy filly out of her in September for $1 million,” said Ferguson. “We bought the filly for the same reasons as we bought the mare, which is it is a very athletic filly and the mare has a great record. She is a grade I winner and from a good family.”
A daughter of Smart Strike , Shadow Cast was produced from the Dayjur mare Daily Special and earned $923,751 from a record of 9-1-6 from 21 starts while racing for Lane’s End William S. Farish and trainer Neil Howard. He biggest wins came in the Personal Ensign Stakes (gr. I), Louisville Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr. II), Silverbulletday Stakes (gr. II), and Bayou Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr.III).
Shadow Cast was consigned by Lane’s End, agent, and sold in foal to Bernardini. She foaled a Storm Catcolt this year.
Earlier in the sale, Ferguson paid $3 million for grade I winner Hystericalady.
