Selling as a racing or broodmare prospect, grade I winner Hystericalady was purchased by Sheikh Mohammed’s bloodstock advisor, John Ferguson, for $3 million during the early portion of the 2008 Keeneland November breeding stock sale Nov. 3 at the Central Kentucky auction house.

Speaking about her purchase, Ferguson said: “She was an outstandingly tough race filly. Obviously, we have followed her with interest over the years and she has been so consistent. She is out of a top South American mare. She was an obvious candidate for us.”

Ferguson said he would speak with Sheikh Mohammed before determining if Hystericalady would continue to race, but added it would be unlikely that she would remain on the racetrack.

Bred in Kentucky by Abbot Properties, Hystericalady (Distorted Humor  -Sacramentada, by Northair) was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.

Northern California-based trainer Jerry Hollendorfer owned the 5-year-old mare in partnership with Tom Clark’s Rancho San Miguel and George Todaro.

Hollendorfer purchased Hystericalady for $125,000 at the 2004 Keeneland September yearling sale from the consignment of Warrendale Sales, agent. She was purchased as a weanling for $100,000 by Wark Bloodstock from the consignment of Four Star Sales, agent.

Hollendorfer said selling Hystericalady was bittersweet. “It was a fair price in this market, and Sheikh Mohammed bought her so I am sure she is going to go to a very good place.

“I have spent everyday with her for the past four years,” Hollendorfer continued. “I’m just happy to see her go to a good place. If they race her, I just hope they let me train her.”

Hystericalady has a career record of 11-4-2 from 23 starts. She earned $2,390,556. Her biggest wins came in the 2008 Humana Distaff (gr. I), Delaware Handicap (gr. II), Fleur de Lis (gr. II), and back-to-back Molly Pitcher Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr. II) in 2007 and 2008. She finished second in the 2007 Emirates Airlines Breeders’ Cup Distaff (gr. I) and was fifth in the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (gr. I).
