Forego Handicap (gr. I) winner First Defence will stand the 2009 breeding season at Juddmonte Farms near Lexington for a stud fee of $20,000 live foal, the farm announced Oct. 31.
Raced as a homebred by Juddmonte for trainer Bobby Frankel, the 4-year-old colt is by Unbridled’s Song and out of the Seattle Slew mare Honest Lady, who was a grade I winner.
First Defence finished his racing career with a 6-3-0 record in 14 starts and $580,534 in earnings. He most recently finished eighth in the Sentient Flight Group Breeders’ Cup Sprint (gr. I) at Santa Anita Oct. 25.
In addition to his victory in the Aug. 30 Forego at Saratoga, First Defence this year also won the Jaipur Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Belmont on June 15, his only career start on the grass.
