Kafwain to Stand at Hurstland

Tommy Town Thoroughbreds has purchased Kafwain   from Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley Stud. The 8-year-old son of Cherokee Run will stand in 2009 at Alfred H. Nuckols Jr.’s Hurstland Farm near Midway, Ky., for a fee of $6,500.

A grade II winner and runner-up to Vindication in the 2002 Bessemer Trust Breeder’s Cup Juvenile (gr. I), Kafwain has sired five stakes winners and five stakes-placed runners from his first two crops. They include graded winner Massive Drama, who placed in last year’s CashCall Futurity (gr. I). Kafwain is represented by the career earners of $2.2 million.

“Kafwain represents a perfect outcross for all of the present popular sire lines,” Nuckols said. “Being from the Blushing Groom line, he crosses very well with the Northern Dancer line. Through his dam, Swazi’s Moment (by Moment of Hope), he should also work very well with the In Reality line. He has already shown an affinity with the Seattle Slew line and should also work very well with the Mr. Prospector line. We are very excited and appreciative to be able to work with Tommy Town and build on the very strong foundation that Darley has already established for Kafwain.”

Tommy Town, located near Santa Ynez, Calif., is owned by Tom and Debi Stull. Kafwain stood in 2008 at Darley near Lexington.
