Edited Magic Millions press release
A Red Ransom–Joie colt brought the top price of Aust$180,000 Oct. 30 during the opening session of the Magic Millions national horses in training sale in Australia. The gross was Aust$4,258,000 for the 129 horses sold. The average price was Aust$33,008, and the clearance rate was 74%. Last year, the 82 horses sold grossed Aust$3,162,500 and averaged Aust$38,567.
Magic Millions' Iran agent Hamid Nikoumanesh secured the top seller and was thrilled with his purchase.
"He was a lovely colt," Nikoumanesh said. "He's very correct, has a good body, and he has a good pedigree.
"We were impressed with how he breezed up - he looks nice and we're delighted to be able to buy him. We're hoping he will race well, and we could have him as a top stallion prospect after he finishes racing.”
The leader board of top sellers was dominated by two vendors: BC3 Australia and Robyn Wise. Between them, they had the top four priced horses of the day. BC3 sold the session topper.
Robyn Wise's top price was the Aust$150,000 given by Macau Jockey Club chief Dr. Stanley Ho for an Exceed and Excel – Love Dance colt. Wise's other six-figure 2-year-old was the Umatilla – Euchre colt that was snapped up Singapore buyer Masatsugu Otani for Aust$130,000.
The other BC3 lot to sell for more than Aust$100,000 was an Elusive Quality –Sabkha filly. She was purchased by New South Wales-based Mega Video for Aust$140,000.
"Considering the current economic conditions we're pretty happy with today's figures," said Magic Millions managing director David Chester said. "But in saying that, I was confident the session would go strongly because we have worked our butts off in the lead-up to the sale to get buyers here."
"Here at the sale we have buyers from Korea, New Zealand, Iran, the Philippines, Malaysia, Macau, Hong Kong, and Singapore, they've all been active and helped us with the positive results throughout the day. In saying that, we've also got plenty of local and interstate buyers here. The smart buyers are all here or are bidding through agents."
The second and final session of the sale is scheduled for Oct. 31.
