Chaplain Ed Donnally, director of development for the Race Track Chaplaincy of America since 2001, has announced his resignation from the organization.
Donnally's resignation, which becomes effective Nov. 1, followed a decision by the RTCA to eliminate the director of development position as part of an organizational restructuring, according to a press release.
Dr. Enrique Torres, RTCA’s executive director, said the group's executive committee plans to hire an operations manager experienced in business practices. He said a development officer will be hired in the future to work under that person.
“We are all sad to see (Donnally) go but conditions dictate a reorganization of our basic structure,” said Torres. “We thank God for his work here. He served with diligence and integrity and was very effective.”
During Donnally’s tenure, home office and total organization revenues grew over 500%. Several new RTCA outreach ministries were established and his White Horse Award, given to racing related workers for heroic acts, was presented for the sixth time last week at Santa Anita Park. Last year a grant won by Donnally resulted in the "White Horse Family Festival" program that fed, awarded raffle prizes and entertained more than 5,200 track workers who heard a gospel concert and retired Hall of Fame jockey Pat Day give his testimony of faith.
Donnally, 65, and a former jockey and Eclipse Award-winning journalist, said he is in the process of selling a Christian novel and has been approached to write a non-fiction book. He plans to assist Christian organizations with raising funds in the Los Angeles area where he lives.
“I wish RTCA every success and consider my time there working under Dr. Torres the most spiritually rewarding in my life," Donnally said in a statement. "I hope the White Horse Award continues because my heart still bears a burden for the people who live and work on the backstretch. I will continue to be their advocate.”
