Three to Stand at Spendthrift
Graded stakes winners Into Mischief, Tiz Wonderful, Notional will enter stud in 2009 at B. Wayne Hughes’ Spendthrift Farm near Lexington.
Into Mischief was one of the top 2-year-olds of 2007 for Hughes. The son of Harlan's Holiday captured the CashCall Futurity (gr. I) over Colonel John at Hollywood Park and ran second in the Hollywood Prevue Stakes (gr. III). His impost of 120 pounds was the co-second-highest on the Experimental Free Handicap for males.
Into Mischief won the Oct. 25 Damascus Stakes on the Breeders’ Cup undercard at Oak Tree at Santa Anita in his first start since running second in the San Vicente Stakes (gr. II) in February. He is scheduled to make his final start in the Dec. 26 Malibu Stakes (gr. I) opening day at Santa Anita.
Bred in Kentucky by James T. Hines Jr., Into Mischief is out of the stakes-winning Tricky Creek mare Leslie’s Lady. His fee is $12,500.
Four-year-old Tiz Wonderful, by Tiznow , won both of the graded stakes for 2-year-old males at Churchill Downs’ fall meeting after breaking his maiden by 12 1/2 lengths at Saratoga in his debut. He took the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II) over Any Given Saturday, plus the Iroquois Stakes (gr. III).
Tiz Wonderful, who ran second in the More Than Ready Stakes, won three of five races and earned $254,672 for Jess Jackson’s Stonestreet Stables. His fee is $12,500.
Bred in Kentucky by Dale Kalmar and a $475,000 Fasig-Tipton Florida February 2-year-old, Tiz Wonderful is out of winning Hennessy mare Evil, who is half-sister to grade II winner Prussian Blue and a full sister to stakes winner Handsome Hunk.
Notional, a 4-year-old by In Excess, recorded the second-highest Beyer Speed Figure by a 2-year-old in 2006 when winning at Oak Tree in his first start. His 105 Beyer was second only to champion Street Sense’s Beyer. Notional also placed in that year’s Hollywood Prevue Stakes (gr. III).
As a 3-year-old, Notional quickly made an impact on the classics trail with wins in the San Rafael Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita and Risen Star Stakes (gr. III) at Fair Grounds and a strong runner-up effort in the Florida Derby (gr. I). At 4, he recorded a 109 Beyer when winning the Salvator Mile Handicap (gr. III) at Monmouth Park.
Notional won or placed in seven of a dozen races and earned $733,240 for owner J. Paul Reddam. Bred in California by Vessels Stallion Farm, he is out of the winning French Deputy mare Truly Blessed. Notional’s fee is $10,000.
