Capitano, a multiple stakes winner by Belong to Me, has been retired from racing and will enter stud in 2009 at Vince Tucciarone’s Fox Tale Stud near Coopersburg, Pa. His fee is $2,500.

Seven-year-old Capitano was a stakes winner four years, winning the 2005 Rolling Green Breeders’ Cup Handicap on turf, the 2006-07 Turf Paradise Handicap on grass, and this year’s Ligature Stakes in July in his final start. During the early part of his career, he placed in such stakes as the Norfolk (gr. II) and Best Pal (gr. II) Stakes and the El Camino Real Derby (gr. III).

Capitano won or placed in 20 of 36 races and earned $576,894 while racing for Vicken and Suzy Meguerditchian. He was bred in Pennsylvania by Brushwood Stable.

Out of the Tabasco Cat mare Heavenly Cat, Capitano is a half-brother to graded winner Heavenly Ransom and stakes winner Dilemma.
