Indyanne, a contender in the Oct. 24 Sentient Flight Group Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, will miss the race after developing a low grade fever, according to her trainer, Greg Gilchrist.

Gilchrist said the fever, as well as the filly having a small cough and not eating as much as she normally does, led him to conclude the daughter of Indian Charlie—Merchant, by Silver Ghost, should not run in the Breeders’ Cup race.

“Any of these things on their own would not be much of a problem, but when you get all of them together,” it indicates she has something going on, Gilchrist said the morning of Oct. 23.

Gilchrest said a possible cause might have been the fact the van brining Indyanne from Northern California to Santa Anita Park in Southern California was delayed for two to three hours due to an accident. With the temperature yesterday in California about 95 degrees, the filly was forced to sit on the van until the traffic cleared.

Gilchrest said Indyanne, owned by David and Jill Heerensperger, would stay in training next year at 4.

Indyanne has won five of six starts including her last outing, the grade III Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland.
