Trainer Richard C. Gonzalez died Oct. 4 at Steubenville, Ohio, after battling cancer. He was 59.
Born in Tijuana, Mexico, Gonzalez trained from 1988 though this year and saddled 89 winners. He handled the sale preparation of 2005 Pennsylvania 2-year-old champion male Escrow Account and was a board member of the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association at Mountaineer Park.
Gonzalez is survived by his wife, Ellen, and four children.
