Jessamine Stakes winner Laragh is the morning line favorite for the Juvenile Fillies Turf.

A wide-open field of 12, led by lukewarm morning-line favorite Laragh, was drawn for the inaugural $1-million Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Santa Anita Park.

The one-mile Juvenile Fillies Turf, one of three new races added to the two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships, will be held as race 4 on the Friday, Oct. 24 program. Post time is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. EDT. It is the second of five Breeders’ Cup events on Ladies Day, which will be highlighted by the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (gr. I).
Laragh enters the contest off a convincing 4 3/4-length romp in the Jessamine Stakes Oct. 9 on the Keeneland grass. It was her first start for trainer John Terranova, who took over conditioning duties under the new ownership of Golden Goose Enterpise and IEAH Stables. Mark Casse was the previous trainer when the Pulpit filly won one of her first three starts at Woodbine.
Bred in Kentucky by Mike Ryan and out of the El Prado mare Rose of Summer, Laragh will be ridden by Prado once again. She drew post two was installed as the 7-2 morning-line choice.
Karen Woods’ Maram enters as the only undefeated starter in the field. The daughter of Sahm has won both of her starts for trainer Chad Brown, starting with a 1 1/2-length maiden claiming victory on the Saratoga grass Aug. 25 under Jose Lezcano, who will ride in the Juvenile Fillies Turf. Six weeks later the dark bay got up in the final strides to take the Ms. Grillo Stakes (gr. IIIT) by a neck over Freedom Rings, who will also start Oct. 24.
A Kentucky-bred out of the Quest for Fame mare American Dreamer, Maram drew post three. Freedom Rings, winless in three starts for trainer David Donk, will break from post six under Alan Garcia.
Three European-based fillies are set to contest the Santa Anita turf course, led by Aidan O’Brien trainee Heart Shaped. The daughter of Storm Cat has a victory in the EBF Marble Hill Stakes at Curragh May 24 to show from five lifetime starts. Bred in Kentucky by Brushwood Stables, but with all of her starts in either England or Ireland, Heart Shaped will be ridden by Johnny Murtagh from post 12.
English-bred April Pride and Irish-bred Beyond Our Reach also invade from Europe.
Frank Calabrese’s Sugar Mom enters the contest off a three-race win streak and has hit the board in all but one of her six career starts. Trained by Wayne Catalano, the daughter of Monarchos won the one-mile Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies on the Turfway Park Polytrack Sept. 27 in her last effort. She will make her first start on turf and will be ridden by Eibar Coa for the first time.
Internallyflawless and Atka are also eligibles.
