The upcoming mixed meet at Prairie Meadows will feature a reduced pari-mutuel takeout and a new pick four wager with a 12% takeout rate. The changes were approved by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
Beginning with opening day, July 21, the takeout for daily doubles, exactas, and quinellas will drop from 24% to 19%; and for trifectas, superfectas, and pick threes, from 25% to 22%. The rate for win, place, and show wagers will remain 16%. The pick four will be offered on opening day.
The commission also approved the track's plan to race Tuesday afternoons rather than Sundays during the Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse meet, which runs through Oct. 6.
"In keeping tabs on the industry and to best place our excellent product in the wagering minds of our fans, we have made strategic changes to lower our takeout percentages, which we hope will encourage additional participation by passing a larger part of the action directly back to those fans making the wagers," track general manager Robert Farinella said.
