Kiss the Kid holds off Wheels Up At Noon to take the Cliff Hanger Stakes.

From the Meadowlands

Hardacre Farm’s Kiss the Kid took command turning for home and held off the late charge of Wheels Up At Noon to take the $150,000 Cliff Hanger Stakes (gr. IIIT) at the Meadowlands in New Jersey Oct. 10.

The 5-year-old horse by Lemon Drop Kid   stalked the pace of Baron Von Tap before powering past that rival and holding off all challengers to post a neck win in the 1 1/16-mile contest.

“We are just so thrilled,” said winning trainer Amy Tarrant, who also owns Kiss the Kid.  “I’ve had this horse since he was a baby and my whole team and I have worked so hard for this moment.

“This is our first graded stakes win ever.  I’ve only been in the business about six years now and this is truly the highlight.”

Ridden by Rajiv Maragh, Kiss the Kid covered the distance over “good” turf in 1:43 3/5 and returned $14.20, $8.40 and $5.80.  Wheels Up At Noon completed a $103.20 exacta and paid $7.80 and $5.80.  It was another neck back to Nergal, who closed for the show and paid $3.20.

The Cliff Hanger effort was the sixth win in 24 starts for the Kiss the Kid, who has now earned $474,767 for his owner/trainer.  The connections indicated that the Fayette (gr. III) at Keeneland on Oct. 25 could be Kiss the Kid’s next start.

Hardacre Farm purchased Kiss the Kid for $270,000 at the 2004 Keeneland September yearling sale from Three Chimneys Sales, agent.
