A fire virtually destroyed a 12-stall barn at the Oak Tree division of Lane’s End Farm in Central Kentucky Oct. 9, but no people or horses were injured.

“It’s not good, but if any people or horses had been hurt, it would have been a disaster,” said Lane’s End’s Bill Farish. “We feel blessed.”

Oak Tree is located north of Lexington in Fayette and Scott Counties. Lane’s End manages the farm for the Niarchos family, which owns the land.

According to Farish, the structure was “an old-style L-shaped cinder block barn” and was the smallest barn on the farm. The broodmares stabled there were turned out when the building caught fire.

The barn will be rebuilt, Farish said.
