Unbeaten Zarkava, the first female winner of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I) since Urban Sea in 1993, has received a 133 Timeform rating off her stunning two-length triumph in the Oct. 5 race at Longchamp. The rating is the second-highest of the year. Curlin, North America’s defending Horse of the Year, tops the list at 134.
The Arc, sponsored by Qatar, was Zarkava’s fifth win this year and seventh overall. Zarkava, an Irish-bred, races as a homebred for the Aga Khan.
By Zamindar out of the Kahyasi mare Zarkasha, Zarkava has raced exclusively in France, and was that country’s champion 2-year-old filly last year. All her wins this year have come in stakes, including scores in the two filly classics -- Prix de Diane (Fr-I) and Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (Fr-I).
Right below Zarkava with Timeform ratings of 132 are Big Brown of the United States, Duke of Marmalade of Ireland, and Raven’s Pass of Great Britain. Duke of Marmalade ran unplaced in the Arc.
