Lady Marian outfinishes favorite Lush Lashes to take the Prix de l'Opera.

German filly Lady Marian came flying with a late rush to snatch victory away from Lush Lashes in the Qatar Petroleum Prix de l’Opera (Fr-I) at Longchamp Oct. 5.

Lush Lashes, winner of three group I races this season, looked set to capture her fourth as she forced her way through a small gap on the rail and shot to the front under Kevin Manning.

Lady Marian, who had held up the start by refusing to load, came flying down the center of the course under Dominique Boeuf to win comfortably by 1 1/2-lengths.

Lush Lashes easily held second, 1 1/2-lengths in front of Katiyra.  Final time for the ten furlongs was 2:03.80 over the good to soft going.

Werner Baltromei trains Lady Marian for owner Rennstall Gestut Hachtsee.  Baltromei said after the race, “She was a very late filly and took a long time to get stronger.”

“We were always looking at this race and then the Breeders’ Cup," he continued, "but obviously we’ll have to see how she is after the race.”

Bred in Germany by the Count and Countess von Stauffenberg, Lady Marian is a 3-year-old daughter of Nayef out of the Shareef Dancer mare, La Felicita. She hails from the immediate family of German champions Lomitas, La Colorada, and Lavirco.
