Jean Hansen Stirling Dies in Florida

Jean Hansen Stirling, 89, mother of Florida Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association executive director Kent Stirling, died Sept. 30 in Hollywood, Fla.

Jean Stirling was born in Leonia, N.J., and spent her youth in Pittsburgh, Pa. She married William Stirling Jr. and later moved to Florida. She was an avid horsewomen and an accomplished show rider for many years, but her passion was breeding and racing Thoroughbred horses. Stirling owned multiple stakes winner What a Threat, and also trained horses briefly at Monmouth Park.

She is survived by her son; daughter Jill Stirling Thomas; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
