Dinwiddie Lampton Jr., who owned Elmendorf Farm near Lexington, died Sept. 25 at his Lexington home. He was 94.

Longtime head of American Life and Accident Insurance in Louisville, Lampton bought Elmendorf in the firm’s name in 1997.  At his other Kentucky farm, Hardscuffle Farm near Louisville, he presented the Hardscuffle Steeplechase.

Much of Lampton’s life revolved around horses. Lampton showed saddlebreds as a youth and later played polo, raced over jumps, and drove coaches and carriages.

Lampton is survived by sons Dinwiddie III and Mason and a daughter, Nana. His second wife, Elizabeth, died in March after a carriage accident at Elmendorf.
