Deputy Glitters to Journeyman Stud
Two-time Derby-winning 3-year-old Deputy Glitters has been retired from racing and will stand his first season in 2009 at Brent and Crystal Fernung’s Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Fla. Deputy Glitters was a leading 3-year-old from a 2006 crop that included Barbaro, Bernardini, Henny Hughes, and Bluegrass Cat. Racing for the Joseph LaCombe Stable, Deputy Glitters defeated grade I winner Bluegrass Cat in the Tampa Bay Derby (gr. III), and went on to win the Ohio Derby (gr. II). In that race, Deputy Glitters defeated grade I winner Flashy Bull and graded-stakes winner High Cotton. “Deputy Glitters was an excellent 3-year-old who possessed the ability to win top races running around two turns,” Brent Fernung, co-owner of Journeyman Stud, said in a statement. “He’ll add stamina and class to the pedigrees of the mares he breeds. He is the product of a successful racing stable, and we appreciate Joe LaCombe giving us this opportunity.” Deputy Glitters broke his maiden at first asking at Saratoga by 13¾ lengths. By Deputy Commanderout of the Glitterman mare Glitters, Deputy Glitters retires with earnings of $426,695. A stud fee will be determined at a later date.
