Tattersalls plans to start offering online bidding for all sales at its Park Paddocks site in Newmarket, England. The first auction to have online bidding will be the October yearling sale, book 1, sponsored by Betfair, which takes place October 7-9. Tattersalls, which will be the first European auction firm to use the technology, is teaming with Live Global Bid to make online bidding available.
"The introduction of live online bidding reflects our commitment at Tattersalls to providing the complete sales service for our clients throughout the world,” said Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony. “Buyers travel from all corners of the globe to buy at Tattersalls and will continue to do so, but Live Global Bid's online technology is a wonderful alternative for those unable to attend a Tattersalls sale who wish to participate. Our client base is truly international and we are confident that the online service will not only prove to be a valuable service for existing clients but also provide the opportunity to broaden our buyer base."
Live Global Bid is a leader in the field of live online auctions staging more than 2,000 live auctions per month. The system proved to be successful when introduced earlier this year at Australia’s William Inglis & Son, in which Tattersalls own a significant shareholding.
Buyers wishing to use the online bidding service will have to register and receive credit approval prior to the relevant sale. During an auction, buyers will simply go to www.tattersalls.com and login to their account to view and listen to the sale before bidding.
