This Saturday (Sept. 27) at Belmont Park, when Curlin races to become the first American horse to surpass $10-million in earnings in the 90th running of the Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I), he’ll be cheered on by fans wearing new limited-edition Curlin T-shirts, designed to commemorate the reigning Horse of the Year’s bid to make history.

The 100% cotton, commemorative Curlin T-shirt will be on sale at Belmont for $5, with all proceeds going to the Backstretch Employees Service Team (B.E.S.T.).  B.E.S.T. provides a full range of health and human services to support workers in the barn areas of the racetracks at Belmont Park, Aqueduct Racetrack, and Saratoga Race Course, helping them lead healthy and full lives.

The Curlin T-shirt goes on sale at 11 a.m. at three Belmont Park locations: second floor of the clubhouse (east end), first floor grandstand colonnade and first floor grandstand (west end).

Curlin won last year’s Jockey Club Gold Cup as a 3-year-old and would go on to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge (gr. I) and Horse of the Year honors.  His 2008 campaign highlights include Grade 1 wins in the Dubai World Cup, Stephen Foster Handicap, and Woodward at Saratoga. Curlin has earned $9,796,800 and trails only Cigar, who earned $9,999,815, as racing’s top money-earner. The winner’s share of the Jockey Club Gold Cup purse is $450,000, and that would vault Curlin’s earnings to an America record $10,246,800.
