Better Than Honour, the 2007 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year, will be the last horse through the ring during the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November select mixed sale, which has 188 lots in its catalog. The auction will be conducted Nov. 2 in Lexington beginning at 3 p.m. (EST).

Better Than Honour, the dam of back-to-back Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winners Jazil (2006) and champion Rags to Riches (2007), is being sold as part of the dispersal of the joint holdings of Mike Moreno’s Southern Equine and John Sikura's Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms. The dispersal will be handled by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency and also will include grade I winner Point Ashley (in foal to Distorted Humor) and grade I winner Madcap Escapade (in foal to A.P. Indy).

According to Fasig-Tipton’s director of marketing Terence Collier, Better Than Honour was placed last in the catalog “at the request of the consignor.” The 12-year-old grade II-winning daughter of Deputy Minister is not in foal.

Better Than Honour “is in a very special category of her own,” Collier said. He added, with a laugh, “We wanted to make sure that nobody left before the last horse went into the sale ring.”

Among the horses in the sale that aren’t part of the Southern Equine/Hill ‘n’ Dale dispersal are the following racing and/or broodmare prospects: 2008 Garden City Stakes (gr. I) winner Backseat Rhythm; 2007 La Brea Stakes (gr. I) winner Dearest Trickski; 2008 Humana Distaff Stakes (gr. I) and Santa Monica Handicap (gr. I) winner Intangaroo; and 2007 Spinaway Stakes (gr. I) winner Irish Smoke.

Other racing and/or broodmare prospects include 2007 Gazelle Stakes (gr. I) winner Lear’s Princess; 2008 Del Mar Debutante Stakes winner (gr. I) Stardom Bound; 2007 Beldame Stakes (gr. I) winner Unbridled Belle; 2008 American Oaks Invitational Stakes (gr. IT) winner Pure Clan; 2007 American Oaks Invitational Stakes (gr. IT) winner Panty Raid; and 2008 Acorn Stakes (gr. I) winner Zaftig.

Zaftig’s dam, Zoftig (in foal to Hard Spun  ), and Canadian and United States grade I winner Honey Ryder (in foal to Giant’s Causeway) are also in the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November catalog. Zoftig was a grade I winner in Canada, and she finished second in the 2000 Ashland Stakes (gr. I).
