Horseman John David Santen of Midway, Ky., died Sept. 9 of cancer. He was 62.
A breeder, owner, and trainer, Santen owned and managed Wildwater Farm near Paris, Ky. Among the 10 stakes winners bred by him alone and in partnership was grade II winner Evansville Slew.
Santen, who served in the Army in Vietnam, is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; sons John Jr. and William; a daughter, Julia; and his mother. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass and Central Kentucky Riding for Hope.
