Doncaster’s St Leger festival yearling sale began on a modest note the evening of Sept. 10, with two £32,000 lots topping the sale.
The duo were a Kyllachy colt bought by agent Bobby O’Ryan for Cockney Rebel’s owner Phil Cunningham from Ballyhane Sales, and a Starcraft filly purchased by agent David Redvers for owner Keith Trowbridge.
The £12,000 median equaled last year’s figure, but the £12,945 average fell by 23% and the £660,200 turnover was down 43%. There were 72 offered and 51 sold, compared to a year ago, when 93 were offered and 69 were listed as sold.
In 2007, the gross was £1,162,875, producing an average of £16,853.
The sale has one more session Sept. 11.
