The California Horse Racing Board issued a complaint against Jose Silva, the trainer of Proud Louie, after the Equine Analytical Chemistry Laboratory at UC Davis reported that a post-race urine sample from the horse contained hydroxymepivacaine.

Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory confirmed the presence of hydroxymepivacaine, a Class 2 prohibited drug substance, in the split sample of the urine taken from Proud Louie after he finished first, but was disqualified to third for interfering with another horse, in the second race at Santa Anita Park on Feb. 11, 2001.
The stewards at Del Mar are scheduled to conduct a hearing Aug. 22-24.
