Akronism Scores in Seaway
Owned and bred by Robert Evans and conditioned by Tim Ritchey, Akronism made her Woodbine debut last month in the six-furlong Royal North Stakes (Can-IIIT) and won by 3 3/4 lengths on the turf. The Seaway, contested on the Polytrack and adding an extra furlong, was no problem for the daughter of Not For Love , as she stalked the pace under Eurico Rosa Da Silva, drew even with longshot Marina Ballerina nearing the sixteenth-pole and sprinted clear as the 2-1 favorite. The final time on a ‘fast’ track was 1:21.51. Marina Ballerina finished second with Justin Stein aboard, 4 1/4 lengths in front of Executive Flight. My list was fourth in a field of seven fillies and mares. Akronism was making her first start on a synthetic surface, and she now has a victory on Polytrack, turf and natural dirt. Her other stakes wins include the Skipat at Pimlico, Maryland Million Distaff Handicap at Laurel and Jostle at Philadelphia Park. She is now 9-2-3 from 21 starts and has earned $516,132. Bred in Kentucky and out of the Explosive Bid mare Jerry Bomb, Akronism ran in the grade I Test as a 3-year-old, finishing sixth. The winner paid $6.80, $4.50 and $3.70. The exacta (8-4) returned $89.60, with the trifecta (8-4-5) netting $357.30. Marina Ballerina went straight to the front under Stein and posted aggressive fractions of :22.54, :44.87 and 1:08.95. She led by 2 1/2 lengths at the top of the stretch before being collared in the late going. View Stakes Details and Full Equibase Chart
