The Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's June 2-year-olds in training sale concluded Wednesday with increases in overall gross and average price. For the entire sale, 226 2-year-olds sold for $3,809,700, compared with 210 2-year-olds grossing $3,163,700 in 2000's single session. The average price was a June sale record $16,857, up 11.9% from $15,065 a year ago, while the median price dipped slightly from $10,000 in 2000 to $9,750. The previous record average was $15,869, set in a single session in 1999. The buyback percentage was 30.6% compared with 26.8% a year ago. Nineteen horses sold for $50,000 or more compared with five a year ago. David A. Scanlon, Agent was the Sale's leading buyer with two for $155,000. In Wednesday's final session, a filly by Mr. Greeley, Hip No. 284, went for $110,000, which set a new record for average price. David Scanlon, agent signed the ticket for the chestnut filly out of Oh Zone, by Arctic Tern, a half sister to stakes winner Wild Zone. She worked a quarter in :22 1/5 at Sunday's Under Tack Show session. For the session, 118 2-year-olds sold for a total of $1,780,100, with an average of $15,086 and a $9,500 median price. Four older horses grossed $32,500, averaging $8,125. The buyback percentage was 23.8%. Tracy Farmer was the session's leading buyer, taking home two for a total of $132,000.
