William S. Farish, the next U.S. ambassador to Britain.

Farish, 62, was expected to be approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee following a hearing Thursday morning. In addition to building Lane's End into one of the top commercial farms in central Kentucky, Farish has been actively involved in many Thoroughbred organizations.

Farish's family has strong ties to the family of President Bush. When Bush's father was vice president, the W. S. Farish & Co. brokerage firm handled some of his financial affairs. Farish has also hosted Queen Elizabeth at his farm, where Her Majesty has also kept some horses.
