Mike Owens has been named Farm Manager of the Year for 2008 by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Farm Managers’ Club.

The criteria for the award are excellence in farm management, service to the KTFMC, and service to the community.

The KTFMC, in an Aug. 29 release, said Owens has demonstrated excellence in farm management at Gary Biszantz’s Cobra Farm, and previously at his own Cornerstone Stable, raising Old Trieste, Sinister Minister, Ifyouprefersilver, and other horses. Owens is a past president and board member of the KTFMC, where he was closely involved in Kentucky Equine Management Internship, a hands-on educational program for young people interested in careers in the Thoroughbred industry.

Owens also was active in the early days of the Kentucky Equine Education Project, and currently serves as the Fayette County team leader for KEEP. He also serves on the board of the Fayette County Farm Bureau, has served on the Lexington/Fayette County Urban Government Board of Adjustment, and was recently appointed to the Lexington/Fayette County Urban Government Planning Commission.

Owens will be honored at the annual KTFMC “Premier Event” Oct. 10. For more information on the event, visit the KTFMC Web site.
