Trainer John Martin Reaches 1,000 Wins

Northern California-based trainer John Martin earned the 1,000th win of his career Aug. 23 when Chase Neil won the fifth race at Sacramento's Cal Expo fair meet.

Favored at odds of 2-1 in the $8,000 claiming race, Chase Neil assumed command early en route to a 6 3/4-length victory. Kyle Kaenel rode the Nevada-bred 3-year-old filly by King Alobar to victory for owner and breeder Tony and Loretta Vitone.
