Jockey Mike Rowland won the 3,500th race of his career Monday at Thistledown, where he has finished first in the standings 24 times. Rowland hit his latest milestone aboard Jeff Novak and Bart Breslin's Providence Pete in the first race at the Cleveland, Ohio-area track. Rowland rides regularly at Thistledown and Mountaineer Park in nearby West Virginia. ... Kolybabiuk, was top Two-Year-Old Filly; Lyle Lovesit, bred by Jane Gilbert, was top Two-Year-Old Colt or Gelding; Stitch N Hitch, bred by Tom Cook and Karen Jennings, was top Three-Year-Old Filly; Thistyranthasclass, bred by John Bowers Jr., was top Three-Year-Old Colt or Gelding; Eleven North, bred by Carolyn Sleeter, was top Handicap Mare; and Elegant April, bred by Louis Cocceli Jr., was top Turf Horse. ... The board of directors of the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund reinstated the 90-day residency rule for returning mares. The board had previously waived the rule in response to growing concerns about foal losses in Kentucky.
