Storm Cat Filly Brings $1.5 Million

Barry Irwin of Team Valor Stables went to $1.5 million to secure a lovely daughter of Storm Catas the opening session of the 2008 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling came to a close Aug. 4.

“She’s just awesome looking,” Irwin said after signing the sales ticket. “She’s just got everything you want…she has an awesome body, athletic looking, and her front legs look good.”

About spending $1.5 million, Irwin said, “The way I look at it, where are you going to find another horse like this. She is special.”

The filly, bred in Kentucky by Strategy Bloodstock, was consigned by John Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.

Produced from the stakes winning Vandlandingdam mare Totemic, the filly is a half-sister to stakes winners Lil’s Lad, Cherokee, and Art Museum.

Concerning future plans, Irwin said, “To be honest with you, I thought I had no shot to get her and there is no plan.”
