Trainer David Vance earned career win 3,000 Aug. 2 when Westline won the first race at Presque Isle Downs.

Westline, owned by Carl Pollard, won the 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race for Pennsylvania-bred 2-year-old fillies by a nose.

Vance, who turns 68 on Aug. 22, won the 2000 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) with 47-1 shot Caressing, who was later named the Eclipse Award winner as the year's outstanding 2-year-old filly. Caressing is the only Breeders' Cup starter of Vance's career.

Among his other stakes winners are Royal Glint, Honky Star, Unbridled Elaine, My Trusty Cat, Reason to Talk, Kiss The Devil and La Reason.

The Indiana native has been training for 42 years. He resides in Hot Springs, Ark., and Louisville, Ky.

During his career, Vance has won three training titles at Churchill Downs, three at Keystone and two at Garden State.

Vance resumed his career this year after sustaining multiple neck and back injuries in a single-car accident on a rain slick road in Northern Kentucky Dec. 9, 2007.
